1980 - 1989

Large networks need large support mechanisms. And ambitious programmes need careful mentoring. In this decade this was the focus of the DAAD Regional Office.

1980

  • A special magazine for former fellows, DAAD Letter, is introduced by the DAAD Head Office in Bonn. The branch office sends it to about 650 fellows in India

1982

1982

  • The first group of students from IIT Madras visits Germany. This programme continues with students from all five Indian Institutes of Technology, along with a group of German students visiting India

1983

1983

  • Short-term scholarships were offered for M.A. and M.Phil. courses in German
  • The “Sandwich Model” was introduced within the framework of the normal long-term fellowship programme
  • Dr Beatrix Brandi-Dohrn joined as the Director (1983-1987)
