With the financial support from the German Embassy Dhaka and the organisational support from DAAD Dhaka, the 2nd German Alumni Night was hosted at the German Embassy in Dhaka on 19 October 2019 by the German Ambassador to Dhaka H.E. Mr. Peter Fahrenholtz.

The event aimed at bringing the Bangladeshi alumni of Germany together and celebrating their achievements, establishing a network-platform for future ventures and creating a bond that goes beyond research. Among the attendees were the Germany Alumni from the past five years including the three of the recently elected DAAD Young Ambassadors from Bangladesh Rakibul Hasan, Khandker Muzaddid Haider, and Nahid-ur-Rahman Chowdhury, members of the Alumni Association of German Universities in Bangladesh (AAGUB), the Association of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Max Planck Research Institute. Moreover, country representatives of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, GIZ and KFW, along with the International Relations office representatives of various private universities in Bangladesh were also present at the event.

The event commenced with talks by H.E. Mr Fahrenholtz and the Additional Secretary of the Education Ministry of Bangladesh, followed by the speech of Dr Katja Lasch (Director, Regional Office, DAAD) read out by Ms Rumana Kabir (Information Officer, DAAD Bangladesh). DAAD Bangladesh conducted a short presentation about the DAAD and the various possibilities for and role of Germany alumni. The AAGUB and the Association of Humboldt Foundation also encouraged their members to make suggestions to make the AAGUB more active. In addition, regular meetups and future projects were discussed for the coming months to further leverage the fruitful academic exchange between the two countries and explore new opportunities.

To conclude, the event was a big success and was appreciated by the attendees. DAAD Dhaka hopes to organise more of such events every year.
